Making sense of Mercedes-Benz Scheduled Maintenance.

A sophisticated onboard program in your dashboard tracks distance driven and time elapsed since your last service. It also communicates maintenance concerns and other service checks. Mercedes has two predominant types of service intervals: each interval alternates with the other but gets a new name each time, which can make the service tracking tricky. Mercedes-Benz models produced in 2003 or later changed their interval reminder names from alphabetic to numeric. For example, some clients will say they are due for a “Service D” and some will report they are due for a “Service 2.” Here is a foundational breakdown, applicable to most Mercedes-Benz models, that will explain the two main service types:

INTERVAL ONE (SERVICE 1 OR A-SERVICE/C-SERVICE/E-SERVICE)

  • Oil and oil filter change
  • Fluids are topped up and tire pressures are adjusted to factory spec.
  • Following the service, the service light is reset using our factory diagnostic tool.
  • Inspection of: belts, exterior lights, filters, hoses, tire wear, front & rear brakes, the engine bay and undercarriage for any major fluid leaks, the suspension condition for wear or safety concerns.

INTERVAL TWO (SERVICE 2 OR B-SERVICE/D-SERVICE/F-SERVICE)

  • Oil and oil filter change
  • Fluids are topped up and tire pressures are adjusted to factory spec.
  • Tires are rotated Engine air filter is replaced
  • Cabin air filter is replaced
  • Following the service, the service light is reset using our factory diagnostic tool
  • Fuel system and oil system cleaners are added
  • Inspection of: belts, exterior lights, filters, hoses, tire wear, front & rear brakes, the engine bay and undercarriage for any major fluid leaks, the suspension condition for wear or safety concerns, a climate control function test is performed to check for proper operation.
