Improving literacy in our community!

Motor Werke has identified the need for a well-supported community and the responsibility they have to assist where they can. When Motor Werke was introduced to Project Literacy’s community work, through the BC Interior Porsche Club, they resonated with their goals and values. They decided they could do something to support Project Literacy’s learners to overcome their challenges and improve their future.

Motor Werke believes that the precision and dedication that is represented in their everyday work should be reflected in establishing strong partnerships and lasting community impact. Both Motor Werke and Project Literacy uphold to quality work, take responsibility in their endeavors and have a strong passion for serving the community in their own respective ways.

The Motor Werke’s team works alongside Project Literacy at one of the largest events in Kelowna, the annual Boyd’s Father’s Day Car Show. This annual event draws almost 20,000 people and is a perfect opportunity for Motor Werke to join with Project Literacy. Motor Werke puts together an impressive display of import cars which attracts people to the display. Event goers learn more about the organization, donate, buy a raffle ticket or take a picture with the cars.

The partnership raises on average $3000 per year for community-based literacy programs. Every year the partnership is able to support a lot of learners to reach their goals!

Did you know that for every $1000 raised twelve volunteer tutors can be trained to support community learners? This means

that all the money raised is leveraged against the support of community volunteers. More than 400 learners per year are assisted with their varying literacy needs. Even more impressive is that volunteers contribute 14,000 hours annually to support literacy in our community.

By supporting Project Literacy, Motor Werke’s employees also gain intrinsic motivation knowing that they work for a company that has a genuine concern for people, customers, and their community. As a business and a supporter of the community the Motor Werke team is a part of something larger than themselves. Motor Werke looks forward to working together with Project Literacy for many years to come.
